The counting of votes is underway after polling ended peacefully for the by-election in Rajanpur’s NA-193, National Assembly constituency.
The NA-193 seat had fallen vacant following the death of PTI’s Sardar Jaffar Khan Leghari in December 2022.
Previous in the day, polling began at 8 am and continued without a break till 5 pm. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) allowed the voters present inside polling stations to cast their votes beyond the 5 pm deadline.
The interim government of Punjab had sought a delay of the by-polls citing security issues, however, the electoral body turned down the request.
It said that a control room had been established at the commission’s secretariat to monitor the election. The control room will be accountable for addressing the complaints regarding the polling, it added.
