PM Shehbaz orders massive crackdown against hoarders, profiteers

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered a major crackdown against sugar smuggling, hoarding, and profiteering.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore on Sunday, the Prime Minister expressed strong resentment over the reports of profiteering and smuggling of essential commodities like sugar.

He convened a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday to devise a comprehensive country-wide strategy to end the smuggling of sugar and other essential commodities.

The Prime Minister directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against those involved in smuggling, profiteering, and hoarding.

He directed the Chief Minister of Punjab to ensure strict monitoring of sugar prices in the province and formulate an action plan for the onward supply of sugar, seized from smugglers and hoarders, to the people at prescribed rates.

Shehbaz Sharif also asked the Chief Minister Punjab to hold consultations with sugar mill owners to stop the increase in sugar prices.

It merits mention here that due to Prime Minister’s timely action, the price of sugar was brought down to 92 rupees per kilogram.

Caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi and other high officials attended the meeting.
