Pakistan Textile Exports Surge by 5.37% in July-August 2024
Pakistan’s textile industry recorded a 5.37% increase in exports during July-August 2024, totaling $2.915 billion, up from $2.766 billion in the same period last year. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) highlighted this growth across several categories, showcasing the resilience of the industry despite global challenges.
Key categories driving the export growth include cotton cloth, which increased by 7.23% to $322.654 million, and knitwear, with exports rising by 7.15% to $820.585 million. Bed wear exports also increased by 7.61%, contributing $504.753 million to the total.
Towels saw a 6.87% increase in exports, totaling $170.766 million, while ready-made garments experienced a significant rise of 17.85%, reaching $658.499 million.
Cotton Yarn Decline and Other Challenges
Despite these positive figures, some areas saw declines. Cotton yarn exports dropped sharply by 45.21%, from $201.837 million to $110.588 million, and raw cotton exports fell to zero, compared to 3.073 million last year.
On a year-on-year basis, textile exports in August 2024 rose by 12.99%, totaling $1.644 billion, compared to $1.455 billion in August 2023. The month-on-month growth from July to August 2024 also showed a notable increase of 29.36%.
This data highlights the positive trajectory of Pakistan’s textile industry, with steady growth in key areas and an overall robust performance.
