Booking Water Tankers in Karachi Made Easier by KW&SB
Subsidized Water Tankers Now Available 24/7
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has introduced new measures to ease water shortages in the city. Citizens can now book subsidized water tankers through a newly established 24/7 window service at all official hydrants, according to CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed.
Prioritizing Residential Areas During Repairs
To ensure uninterrupted water supply during ongoing infrastructure repairs, the KW&SB has suspended commercial tanker operations for three days, particularly along University Road. The focus has shifted to residential areas, with an increased quota of water tankers allocated to serve housing complexes and flats.
E-Slips for Fair Distribution
Transparency is a key focus of these new measures. Residents must obtain computerized e-slips when booking water tankers. The Hydrants Cell has urged citizens to report any irregularities, such as operators failing to provide e-slips, ensuring that the system remains fair and efficient.
Accessing Hydrant Services
To further assist the public, contact numbers for all official hydrants have been shared. This step aims to streamline the booking process and make water tankers accessible to all areas affected by the ongoing pipeline repairs.
Water Shortages Continue to Challenge Karachi
Karachi has been grappling with severe water shortages due to repeated leaks in a vital 84-inch pipeline damaged during Red Line development work on December 3. Despite initial repairs, over 2.5 billion gallons of water were lost during an eight-day disruption, leaving many neighborhoods in crisis.
These measures, including increased tanker availability and enhanced transparency, reflect KW&SB’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the water crisis on Karachi’s residents.
