Islamabad Declares August 13 Public Holiday Ahead of Independence Day

Islamabad Adds Extra Holiday Before August 14 Celebrations

Just a day before Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, the Islamabad administration has announced a public holiday on August 13, 2025. According to the August 12 notification, all government offices in the federal capital will remain closed, though essential services will continue as usual.

Earlier Regional Holidays This Month

Earlier in August, the Sindh government declared a public holiday on Saturday, August 9, marking the 282nd annual Urs of the revered Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

Ban on Vuvuzelas in Islamabad

In a separate order, authorities have imposed a ban on the sale and use of ‘baajas’ (vuvuzelas) ahead of Independence Day celebrations. The Deputy Commissioner warned that violators will face legal action, as the loud instruments have been a source of public disturbance in previous years.

Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day Preparations

On August 14, 2025, Pakistan will mark 78 years of independence with nationwide festivities, including:

  • Flag-hoisting ceremonies in major cities like Karachi, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar
  • Cultural shows, parades, and musical performances
  • Patriotic events in schools and colleges such as debates and poetry competitions
  • Streets decorated with green and white flags, lights, and banners
