Sindh to Launch People’s Bus Service in Three More Districts

The Sindh government has approved the expansion of the People’s Bus Service to three additional districts — Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Naushahro Feroze — as part of its efforts to strengthen public transportation infrastructure across the province.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Sindh Transport Department, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who reviewed the progress of ongoing and upcoming mass transit projects.

According to an official statement released after the meeting, 20 new buses will be deployed under the extended service to improve inter-district connectivity and provide affordable and accessible public transport for residents of interior Sindh.

Sharjeel Memon emphasized that expanding the People’s Bus Service is a key component of Sindh’s public mobility plan, aimed at bridging the urban–rural transport divide. He also instructed authorities to ensure timely completion of bus route infrastructure, terminal setups, and driver training programs before the new routes are launched.

Affordable and inclusive transport for all

The People’s Bus Service, first introduced in Karachi and later expanded to cities like Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, has become one of Sindh’s most successful urban transport initiatives. The service is known for its low fares, air-conditioned buses, and dedicated women’s sections, offering a safe and comfortable commuting option for thousands of daily passengers.

The upcoming expansion into Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Naushahro Feroze marks another step in Sindh’s plan to ensure equal access to modern transportation across all major regions of the province.

Officials said the government is also evaluating the performance of existing routes in Karachi and Hyderabad, with plans to add more electric and hybrid buses in the next phase to promote eco-friendly mobility.

The expansion of the People’s Bus Service is part of the broader Sindh Mass Transit Program, which includes the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) and the Orange Line and Red Line bus projects.
