By-Elections Across 6 National and 7 Punjab Assembly Seats Set for Tomorrow
Pakistan is gearing up for an important political event as by-elections will take place tomorrow in six National Assembly constituencies and seven Punjab Assembly seats. The Election Commission of Pakistan has completed logistical preparations and moved election materials to all designated polling stations under strict security arrangements.
The National Assembly constituencies scheduled for polling include NA-18 Haripur, NA-96 Faisalabad, NA-104 Faisalabad, NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal and NA-185 Dera Ghazi Khan. Thousands of voters across these regions will cast their ballots to fill seats vacated due to various political developments.
Punjab Assembly seats PP-73 Sargodha, PP-87 Mianwali, PP-98 Faisalabad, PP-115 Faisalabad, PP-116 Faisalabad, PP-203 Sahiwal and PP-269 Muzaffargarh will also witness competitive contests. Security personnel, polling staff and district authorities have been placed on high alert to ensure a smooth voting process.
In NA-185 DG Khan, authorities have identified several polling stations as extremely sensitive. More than 3,000 police officers will be deployed, supplemented by Elite Force, Ladies Police and specialized reserve contingents. Pakistan Army and Punjab Rangers will be positioned as Quick Response Units to handle any emergency situation.
In Muzaffargarh’s PP-269, over 1,700 police officers will remain on duty throughout the polling duration. Voting will begin at 8:00 AM and continue until 5:00 PM without interruption.
Faisalabad remains a major focus with two National Assembly and three provincial constituencies up for contest. Nearly two million voters in the district will choose between PML-N candidates and PTI-backed independents. Several close contests are expected due to strong local dynamics and significant clan-based influence.
In PP-98 Chak Jhumra, PML-N candidate Azad Ali Tabassum faces a strong challenge from former minister Ajmal Cheema, who enjoys wide support from the Jat community. In Jaranwala, Bilal Badar Chaudhry is contesting against seasoned politician Nawab Sher Wasair, who has remained influential for decades.
Other closely watched constituencies include races involving the son of former opposition leader Raja Riaz, as well as the son-in-law of Rana Sanaullah, both of whom face strong independent contenders with local support bases.
A competitive environment is also expected in NA-18 Haripur, where PTI-backed independent Sheher Naz Umar Ayub Khan is challenging PML-N’s Babar Nawaz Khan. In DG Khan’s NA-185, PPP’s Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa and PML-N’s Mehmood Qadir Laghari will go head-to-head, with PTI boycotting the race.
In Lahore’s NA-129, Chaudhry Arsalan, grandson of the late Mian Muhammad Azhar, is contesting to retain the family’s political legacy. He faces PML-N’s Hafiz Mian Muhammad Noman, while the presence of another PTI candidate raises concerns about a split in the PTI vote bank.
As Pakistan heads into these critical by-elections, the results are expected to reflect voter sentiment and influence political momentum ahead of future national decisions.
