CM KP Inaugurates Rs. 1.6 Billion Hayatabad Underpass in Peshawar
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has inaugurated the newly constructed Hayatabad Toll Plaza Underpass in Peshawar, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving traffic movement in one of the city’s busy areas.
The Rs. 1.6 billion underpass was completed in just 90 days, according to details shared about the project. Authorities expect the new facility to help reduce congestion and provide a smoother route for motorists travelling through Hayatabad and surrounding areas.
The newly inaugurated underpass is approximately 500 metres long and includes a 130-metre barrel structure. The project also features 665 piles and has been designed as a two-lane underpass to facilitate the movement of vehicles.
The underpass provides a more direct connection for traffic travelling from Detour Road on the Bara side towards Ring Road. The improved route is expected to reduce interruptions for motorists and support better traffic flow around the Hayatabad Toll Plaza.
The completion of the project within 90 days has also highlighted the focus placed on faster infrastructure development. With traffic volumes increasing across major urban areas, projects aimed at improving road connectivity can play an important role in reducing delays for commuters.
The Hayatabad area is an important part of Peshawar’s road network and experiences regular traffic movement between residential, commercial and connecting routes. The new underpass is intended to make this movement more efficient by allowing traffic to pass through the junction with fewer interruptions.
The project’s construction includes substantial groundwork, with 665 piles incorporated into the structure. Its 130-metre barrel forms a key part of the underpass, while the two-lane configuration is designed to accommodate traffic moving along the designated route.
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi’s inauguration formally brought the project into operation. The development is expected to benefit residents, commuters and commercial traffic using the route between the Bara side and Ring Road.
The provincial government has increasingly emphasized infrastructure improvements as part of efforts to address transportation challenges in major urban centres. The Hayatabad underpass is among the projects designed to improve road connectivity and ease pressure on existing traffic routes.
For motorists, the key benefit of the new facility is a direct and smoother passage through the Hayatabad Toll Plaza area. By providing an alternative to surface-level traffic movement at the junction, the underpass is expected to help streamline vehicle flow.
The Rs. 1.6 billion development also represents a significant investment in Peshawar’s transport infrastructure. Its reported 90-day construction period makes the project notable for the speed with which the major road facility was completed.
With the underpass now inaugurated, attention will turn to its impact on daily traffic conditions in Hayatabad and the surrounding areas. Improved connectivity between Detour Road on the Bara side and Ring Road is expected to support more efficient movement across this part of Peshawar.
