Pakistan and Nigeria Vow to Deepen Economic and Business Cooperation

Pakistan and Nigeria have reiterated their commitment to expanding economic ties, with a particular focus on strengthening business-to-business collaboration across mining, renewable energy and industrial development. The reaffirmation came during a meeting between Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and a 13-member Nigerian delegation in Islamabad.

The visiting delegation, led by Federal Commissioner Imo Effiong Akpan from Nigeria’s Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange institutional expertise. Aurangzeb briefed the team on Pakistan’s economic reforms, highlighting progress made across key macroeconomic indicators over the past 18 months.

He noted improvements such as greater external stability, moderating inflation, disciplined fiscal management and renewed confidence in Pakistan’s financial markets. The minister emphasized that Pakistan’s long-term development strategy now centers on private-sector-driven growth, with sectors like banking already experiencing significant private participation.

Aurangzeb also outlined major structural reforms underway, including expanding the tax base, accelerating digitization and modernizing the Federal Board of Revenue through a comprehensive transformation program. These efforts, he said, reflect Pakistan’s commitment to building a stronger, more transparent and efficient economic framework.

He assured the Nigerian delegation that Pakistan is eager to continue supporting knowledge-sharing initiatives, particularly in revenue administration, institutional strengthening and modernization of financial systems.

Commissioner Imo Effiong Akpan briefed the minister on the mandate of Nigeria’s Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. He explained that the body is responsible for designing revenue allocation mechanisms, advising on public sector pay structures and ensuring fiscal coordination within Nigeria’s federal framework.

Akpan stated that the delegation’s visit aims to study Pakistan’s experience in tax reforms, customs modernization, resource management and federal revenue distribution. He highlighted that Nigeria is keen to benefit from Pakistan’s advancements in these areas.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing confidence that deeper cooperation will support sustainable growth, encourage investment opportunities and further strengthen relations between Pakistan and Nigeria.
