The government of Sindh has decided to form a special task force aimed at tackling illegal mining activities across the province. The move is part of broader efforts to regulate the mining sector and prevent the unauthorized extraction of valuable natural resources.

The decision was finalized during a key meeting of the Mines and Minerals Development Department chaired by Syed Sardar Ali Shah, who currently serves as Sindh’s Minister for Education and Mines & Minerals Development.

Officials discussed growing concerns regarding unregulated mining operations in several areas of Sindh. Illegal mining not only leads to significant financial losses for the provincial government but also poses environmental risks and safety hazards for local communities.

The newly proposed task force will focus on monitoring mining sites, identifying illegal operators, and ensuring that mining activities comply with provincial laws and regulations. Authorities aim to strengthen enforcement measures and improve coordination among relevant departments to curb unlawful extraction practices.

During the meeting, Syed Sardar Ali Shah emphasized the importance of protecting the province’s natural resources and ensuring that mining activities are conducted through legal channels. He also highlighted the need for stricter monitoring to prevent individuals or groups from exploiting mineral resources without proper licenses.

Illegal mining has remained a challenge in various regions of Sindh, where unauthorized excavation often damages land, disrupts ecosystems, and deprives the government of revenue generated through regulated mining operations.

The special task force is expected to include representatives from law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities, and the Mines and Minerals Development Department. Their combined efforts will focus on identifying illegal mining sites, conducting inspections, and taking legal action against violators.
