Punjab Records 43% Increase in Animal Exports, Farmers Expected to Earn Rs. 11 Billion

Punjab has reported a significant increase in animal exports, with the provincial government preparing 400,000 animals for export over the course of a year. The development is expected to generate approximately Rs. 11 billion in earnings for rural livestock farmers, highlighting the growing importance of Pakistan’s livestock sector.

According to an official government handout, animal exports from Punjab have increased by 43 percent. The growth reflects ongoing efforts to support livestock farmers, improve animal production, and create better economic opportunities for rural communities.

The provincial government has also highlighted the contribution of the Livestock Card scheme, which aims to provide financial assistance to farmers for essential livestock expenses. Under the initiative, 129,581 animals raised by participating farmers have already been exported.

Launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Livestock Card scheme provides farmers with Rs. 27,000 per animal to cover feed and fodder costs. This financial support is designed to help livestock owners manage production expenses and maintain the health and quality of their animals.

The initiative is particularly important for small-scale and rural farmers, many of whom depend on livestock rearing as a primary source of income. By helping farmers meet essential feeding costs, the scheme aims to ease financial pressure and support their participation in export-related activities.

The reported increase in animal exports could also create wider economic benefits for Punjab. Higher export volumes may strengthen demand across the livestock supply chain, including animal rearing, feed production, transportation, veterinary services, and related businesses.

For rural communities, increased livestock exports can provide opportunities to improve household earnings and expand agricultural income sources. The projected Rs. 11 billion in earnings could offer financial relief to participating farmers while contributing to economic activity in livestock-producing areas.

Pakistan’s livestock sector plays an important role in the country’s agricultural economy. It supports millions of people through animal farming, dairy production, meat supply, and other related activities. Expanding export opportunities can help the sector reach international markets and generate additional revenue.

However, maintaining long-term growth in animal exports requires consistent attention to animal health, quality standards, disease prevention, and international trade requirements. Reliable veterinary services, proper animal nutrition, and effective transportation arrangements are also essential to ensuring that export growth remains sustainable.

The latest figures indicate that Punjab’s livestock support initiatives are contributing to increased export activity. The reported 43 percent rise, combined with the preparation of 400,000 animals for export, points to the sector’s potential to provide greater financial opportunities for farmers.

As the provincial government continues its livestock support efforts, the effectiveness of initiatives such as the Livestock Card scheme will remain important for rural livelihoods. Sustained assistance, improved farming practices, and access to international markets could further strengthen Punjab’s livestock industry and its contribution to Pakistan’s economy.
