Latest updates on the Karachi Police Office attack
KARACHI: At least four terrorists were killed during an ongoing exchange of fire in and outside the office of the Karachi police chief as militants stormed the erection located on Sharea Faisal, Geo News reported citing Sindh Inspector-General Ghulam Nabi Memon.
An unknown number of terrorists opened fire at the head office — located adjacent to the Sadar Police Station — which is home to several police buildings as well as the abodes of officers and their families.
The attack began at around 7:10 pm and is still ongoing, while multiple detonations were reported as well as terrorists targeted the five-story police building. Hours after the attack started, gunfire and grenade blasts could still be heard.
Authorities said that four floors of the building have been cleared and soon, the situation will be under control. Police snipers took up positions near the station and all lights in the area were switched off.
A police officer, who did not want to be named, told Geo News that the attackers entered the office wearing police uniforms — a similar tactic used in the Peshawar mosque suicide spasm that claimed the lives of more than 80 people.
