In a historic move, Al-Azhar University, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious centers for Islamic learning, has unveiled plans to establish a campus in Pakistan. The announcement was made during a meeting in Islamabad between Education Minister Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Egypt’s Grand Mufti Nazir Mohamed Ayad.

Empowering Women Through Education

Al-Azhar University’s commitment to women’s education stands as a cornerstone of this collaboration. Grand Mufti Ayad highlighted that over 40% of Al-Azhar’s students are women, emphasizing the importance of empowering women through knowledge.

Minister Siddiqui echoed these views, addressing misconceptions about women’s education in Islam. “Our religion not only allows but strongly advocates education for all,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s dedication to ensuring equal opportunities.

International Collaboration for Progress

The upcoming International Girls Conference, set to take place on January 11-12, will showcase efforts by Islamic countries to advance girls’ education. Over 2,000 female students have been invited to participate, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to educational progress.

Government Support for Al-Azhar Campus

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani assured the full support of Pakistan’s Ministry of Education in facilitating the establishment of Al-Azhar’s campus. This partnership symbolizes a shared vision for a more inclusive and progressive educational landscape.
