Gwadar’s Aviation Dream Takes Flight: New International Airport Operational

A Historic First Flight

Pakistan’s New Gwadar International Airport achieved a major milestone as it became fully operational on Monday. The inaugural flight, PIA PK-503, took off from Karachi with 46 passengers at 9:50 AM, landing at the new airport at 11:15 AM. The event marked the beginning of a new chapter in Gwadar’s journey toward economic and logistical prominence.

Ceremonial Welcome for the First Flight

A warm reception awaited the arriving plane, including a ceremonial water cannon salute. Distinguished officials, including Defence and Aviation Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, were present to witness and celebrate the occasion.

Economic and Strategic Importance

The New Gwadar International Airport is set to transform Gwadar into a hub of connectivity, fostering growth in tourism, trade, and regional development. The state-of-the-art facility reflects Pakistan’s aspirations to strengthen global ties and unlock economic potential in the strategically important Gwadar region.

Partnerships Behind the Project

This flagship project, realized through collaboration between China and Pakistan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is a shining example of modern engineering and international cooperation. Its advanced features position Gwadar as a vital player in global logistics.

Tackling Challenges with Vision

In February 2024, unforeseen weather conditions led to the suspension of operations due to heavy rainfall. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) acted swiftly to ensure safety, highlighting the airport’s focus on delivering reliable services despite challenges.
