Punjab Government Announces Six-Day Eid ul Azha Holidays
The Government of Punjab has officially announced public holidays across the province on the occasion of Eid ul Azha, providing citizens with an extended break during the festive period.
According to an official notification issued by provincial authorities, Eid ul Azha holidays in Punjab will be observed from May 26 to May 29, 2026. The holidays will fall on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Government offices, public departments, and related institutions throughout the province are expected to remain closed during the announced holiday period. Officials confirmed that all provincial departments will follow the schedule outlined in the notification.
The announcement means that many citizens will enjoy a total six-day break when the Eid holidays are combined with the regular weekend holidays on Saturday and Sunday. The extended break is expected to allow families more time to celebrate Eid ul Azha, travel, and participate in religious and social activities.
Eid ul Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic occasions celebrated across Pakistan and the Muslim world. The holiday is marked by special prayers, animal sacrifice, charitable activities, and family gatherings.

Every year, millions of people travel to their hometowns during the Eid holidays, leading to increased activity at bus terminals, railway stations, and airports. Markets and shopping centers also witness a surge in customers ahead of the celebrations as families prepare for religious rituals and festive gatherings.
Authorities are expected to implement special arrangements to manage traffic flow, security, sanitation, and public services during the holiday period. Local administrations across Punjab may also issue additional directives regarding cleanliness campaigns and cattle market operations during Eid days.
The announcement of extended Eid holidays has been welcomed by many citizens, particularly government employees and students, who often use the long break for family visits and leisure activities.
