Fly Jinnah has overtaken Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) to become the country’s largest domestic airline in terms of passenger traffic during the financial year 2024-25. The development marks a significant shift in Pakistan’s aviation industry, with the private airline recording more domestic passengers than the country’s national flag carrier.
According to figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Fly Jinnah transported approximately 1.967 million passengers on domestic routes during the financial year. This placed the airline ahead of PIA, which carried around 1.851 million domestic passengers over the same period.
The difference between the two airlines stood at approximately 116,000 passengers, highlighting Fly Jinnah’s growing presence in Pakistan’s domestic aviation market.
The latest figures reflect increasing competition among airlines operating within the country. Domestic air travel remains an important transportation option for passengers travelling between major cities, particularly for business, family visits, and other personal commitments.
Fly Jinnah’s achievement represents an important milestone for the airline, which has continued to expand its position in Pakistan’s aviation sector. Its passenger numbers indicate a growing role in connecting travellers across domestic routes.
Meanwhile, PIA secured the second position in the domestic passenger traffic figures for FY2024-25. Despite being Pakistan’s national airline, it recorded fewer domestic passengers than Fly Jinnah during the reporting period.
The change in passenger rankings is particularly noteworthy because PIA has traditionally maintained a prominent position in the country’s aviation industry. However, the latest CAA statistics show that Fly Jinnah carried a larger number of domestic travellers during the financial year.
Passenger traffic is one of the key indicators used to assess an airline’s activity and presence in the aviation market. The figures can reflect several factors, including flight availability, route coverage, ticket pricing, operational capacity, and passenger demand.
Pakistan’s domestic aviation sector plays a significant role in connecting cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Quetta, and other destinations. Airlines compete to attract passengers through their route networks, flight schedules, services, and ticket prices.
Fly Jinnah’s performance during FY2024-25 highlights the changing competitive landscape of the country’s airline industry. Its lead over PIA also demonstrates the importance of private airlines in serving Pakistan’s growing domestic travel market.
However, passenger numbers alone do not provide a complete picture of an airline’s overall performance. Other factors, including financial results, operational reliability, customer satisfaction, and international operations, are also important when assessing an airline’s position.
With approximately 1.967 million domestic passengers, Fly Jinnah has secured the top position in Pakistan’s domestic passenger traffic for FY2024-25, according to the CAA figures. PIA followed with 1.851 million passengers, leaving a difference of around 116,000 travellers between the two carriers.
The figures underline a notable development in Pakistan’s aviation industry and highlight the increasing role of private airlines in domestic air transportation.
