Islamabad United announced #1Run1Tree initiative in partnership with WWF-Pakistan
True to its vision of capitalizing on the strong passion for cricket in Pakistan in bringing positive change in Pakistan, Islamabad United is pleased to announce its #1Run1Tree initiative in partnership with WWF-Pakistan.
Islamabad United endeavours to plant one tree for every run scored and ten trees for every wicket taken in a global tournament where Pakistan brings home the trophy, and for ISLU’s performance in each season of PSL.
We are starting this initiative to commemorate the exceptional triumph of the Pakistan Cricket Team in the recent Champions Trophy 2017 which also coincides closely with the 70th independence anniversary of Pakistan.
ISLU and WWF-Pakistan are today starting the campaign to plant around 1500 trees based on the number of runs and wickets taken by the team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
Ali Naqvi on this campaign said ” This is a WIN WIN for everyone. The more trees you plant, the healthier the environment will be and the more encouragement players will get, the more runs they will try to score, the more tournaments we will win and the more trees we will plant, the healthy our environment and the more encouraged players will feel. #1Run1Tree”
Misbah-ul-Haq, the captain of Islamabad United, also came out in full support of the initiative and encouraged “all Islamabad United, PSL and Pakistan Cricket fans to take part in the initiative and show their support for #OneRunOneTree. An athlete needs a healthy environment to remain fit and compete at the international level. We need to support such an initiative as it directly impacts all facets of life.”
Director General WWF-Pakistan, Hammad Naqi Khan, “We often come across people complaining about the constant loss of the country’s green cover and questioning the role of non-government organisations in this regard. Through this plantation drive, we are putting across a message that WWF-Pakistan as an organisation is serious about partnering with organisations like Islamabad United and making an investment for the future – the dividends of which our future generations will reap. We urge others to follow suit and step up their efforts to reach out to the masses.”
Through this initiative, ISLU hopes to kick start a movement across the country to encourage tree plantations at an individual level, which will, in turn, benefit our homeland in immeasurable ways. So if you are a cricket fan, and have a strong love for the healthy future of our beloved homeland, come join us and take part in #1Run1Tree.
