PPL Reports Big Increase in Gas Processing Capacity in Sindh’s Sanghar District
In a significant achievement for Pakistan’s energy sector, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has successfully enhanced the gas processing capacity at its Gambat South Gas Processing Facility (GPF-II) in Sanghar, Sindh, from 55 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) to 60 MMscfd through process optimization.
The upgrade, completed without any hardware modification, underscores PPL’s commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainable energy development. This milestone is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s domestic gas supply, particularly at a time when the country faces growing energy demand and supply challenges.
PPL, which holds a 65 percent working interest in the Gambat South Block, partnered with Government Holdings (Private) Limited (25%) and Asia Resources Oil Limited (10%) for this project. The optimization not only increases the facility’s processing capacity but also enhances the reliability and operational stability of the plant.
According to PPL officials, the capacity boost was achieved through advanced engineering techniques, better process management, and optimized plant configurations that maximize throughput without major capital expenditure. This achievement reflects the company’s technical expertise and its focus on cost-efficient energy solutions.
Industry experts have lauded the development, noting that such capacity enhancements can play a crucial role in reducing Pakistan’s dependence on imported energy and strengthening the national grid’s supply chain.
The Gambat South Block, located in Sindh’s resource-rich Sanghar district, has long been one of PPL’s key operational zones. The region contributes significantly to Pakistan’s gas output, supplying energy to both industrial and domestic consumers.
With the new optimization measures, the facility will be able to meet the increasing energy requirements of the southern region more effectively while supporting the government’s goal of boosting indigenous energy production.
PPL’s management reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development, technological innovation, and efficient resource utilization, emphasizing that such projects align with Pakistan’s broader energy security and economic growth strategies.
The company’s success at Gambat South also serves as a model for other local operators looking to expand production capacity through smart engineering and optimization rather than costly hardware upgrades.
This development marks yet another step forward for Pakistan’s exploration and production (E&P) sector as it continues to harness local expertise to meet national energy needs.
