Punjab Plans Rs. 39 Billion Expansion to Transform 485 Rural Areas into Modern Villages
The Punjab government is moving forward with plans to expand its rural development efforts by proposing an additional allocation of Rs. 39 billion for the next phase of the model villages program under the “Maryam Nawaz Ka Sohna Punjab” initiative.
The proposal was reviewed during a high-level meeting held at the Civil Secretariat and chaired by Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique. Senior officials from the Local Government Department, including Secretary Local Government Shakeel Ahmad and Special Secretary Shahid Zaman Lak, participated in discussions regarding the project’s future roadmap.
The ambitious initiative aims to transform 485 rural settlements across Punjab into modern villages equipped with improved infrastructure, public services, and community facilities. The program is designed to enhance the quality of life for residents by addressing key development challenges in rural areas.
Under the proposed expansion, villages are expected to benefit from better road networks, upgraded sanitation systems, improved drainage infrastructure, cleaner environments, and enhanced access to essential civic amenities. The government believes that modernizing rural communities will help bridge the development gap between urban and rural regions.
Officials reviewed progress made under previous phases of the model villages program and discussed strategies for accelerating implementation. The proposed funding is expected to support the construction and rehabilitation of critical infrastructure projects in selected villages throughout the province.
The “Maryam Nawaz Ka Sohna Punjab” initiative is one of the provincial government’s flagship development programs aimed at improving living standards and promoting sustainable growth in underserved communities. By focusing on rural transformation, the government hopes to create healthier, safer, and more economically vibrant environments for local residents.
Development experts often emphasize that investments in rural infrastructure play a crucial role in economic growth. Improved roads, sanitation, and public facilities can increase access to education, healthcare, and employment opportunities while attracting further investment to rural areas.
The proposed Rs. 39 billion allocation reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to accelerating development projects and ensuring that rural communities receive the same level of attention as urban centers. If approved, the funding will significantly expand the scope of the model villages program and benefit thousands of families across the province.
As planning continues, further details regarding project timelines, village selection criteria, and implementation schedules are expected to be announced by the relevant authorities in the coming months.
The initiative represents a major step toward creating modern, well-connected, and sustainable rural communities across Punjab, supporting the province’s broader vision for inclusive development and improved public services.
