The Pakistani government has just released the Nisab-i-Zakat for this year’s Ramadan. This means they’ve set the minimum amount of money you need to have in your bank account for zakat to apply.
The Basics of Zakat:
- The Minimum (Nisab): Rs. 135,179
- What is Zakat? It’s an important part of Islam where you give a percentage of your wealth to help those in need.
- How it Works: If you have more than the minimum in your savings (or similar accounts), the bank will take out 2.5% for zakat.
- Important Note: If you have less than the minimum, you don’t have to pay zakat this way.
- When Does it Happen? The banks will deduct the zakat on the first day of Ramadan (expected to be March 12th, but the moon sighting will confirm).
Why Zakat Matters
Zakat isn’t just a religious duty, it’s about helping your community. It’s a way to spread wealth more fairly and support those who are struggling.
