Petrol Price Hike Announced for Upcoming Fortnight

In its latest adjustment to petroleum prices, the government has increased petrol rates by one rupee per litre, setting the new price at Rs253.63. The revised pricing takes immediate effect across Pakistan.

Diesel Price Maintained at Previous Rate

Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel remains unchanged at Rs254.64 per litre, providing some stability for businesses and industries that depend on diesel.

Notification of Revised Prices

The updated pricing was communicated through an official notification, underscoring the government’s ongoing practice of regularly reviewing fuel costs in light of domestic and global market conditions.

Recent Pricing Trends

The last petrol price change was on May 16, when the federal government decided to keep petrol rates steady at Rs252.63 per litre, while cutting high-speed diesel by Rs2 per litre.

Prior to this, on April 30, both petrol and diesel prices were slashed by Rs2 per litre, resulting in petrol at Rs252.63 per litre and diesel at Rs256.64 per litre.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during an address on April 15, clarified that while direct fuel price cuts were not feasible, the government intended to channel the benefits of falling global oil prices into development initiatives for the public.

Outlook and Consumer Concerns

Though the current petrol price hike is minimal, it is expected to modestly impact consumers’ transportation expenses. Public transport fares and goods delivery rates may experience slight upward pressure.

The government’s incremental adjustments are seen as efforts to maintain fiscal balance while ensuring stability for diesel-dependent sectors, which play a critical role in trade and agriculture.
